The Charitable Impact of Golf

With more than 40 years of experience in the energy sector, Benedito Carraro has spent the last decade focusing on emerging technologies in renewable energy and infrastructure. Outside of his work life, Benedito Carraro is an avid golfer who plays regularly and supports the sport both on and off the course.

A recent study shows that golf’s charitable impact across the world is more than the four major U.S. sports leagues (NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL) combined. The National Golf Foundation and GOLF 20/20 are behind the survey, which shows that golf accounts for US$3.9 billion in charity dollars each year, with some 12,700 facilities participating in 143,000 charity functions that net an average of US$26,400 per event.

A majority of the organizations that benefit from golf’s charitable impact are allied with youth, education, health, and cultural awareness causes. Charity golf event organizers also tout these functions as great ways to network with professionals and gain community exposure for businesses.
